Growing Medical Field Creates Demand for LVNs and RNs
Health care costs keep rising and unemployment is rising as well. Is there a way to combine these two problems to your advantage? How about becoming a Licensed Vocational Nurse or a Registered Nurse? LVNs and RNs are in-demand in the health sector. Additionally, the health sector itself has experienced continuous growth over a number of years. By becoming a part of the medical field you can establish yourself a stable and profitable career.
Responsibilities of LVNs
LVNs are responsible for basic patient care and get their training from CA Licensed Vocational Nursing schools. This can include a wide variety of duties, depending on the environment in which the LVN is working in. The most common venues for LVNs to work in are clinics or hospitals, but there are also positions available for LVNs in private home health care.
Clinic or hospital use LVNs for administering medications and tracking when the medication is given. They are also responsible for taking and recording blood pressure, body temperature, respiration rates, as well as measuring and recording height and weight. LVNs who work in home health care, are responsible for similar duties, but perform their duties after traveling to the patients’ home. Since the patients aren’t in a medical environment there is less work performing tests and collecting fluids, and more work cleaning and making patients comfortable.
RN Job Description
RNs, on the other hand, provide a much wider variety of services. The duties that a RN are allowed to perform vary from state to state (due to variances in state laws), but an RN can perform any duties that an LVN can perform. Additionally, RNs are often responsible for delegating duties among LVNs and nursing assistants.
Since RNs are responsible for a wider variety of patient care, as well as being responsible for the direction on LVNs and nursing assistants, the training necessary for becoming an RN is much more intensive. Additionally, once the training is completed, a test must be taken to certify someone as an RN. While there are more requirements to become an RN, there are compensating benefits. RNs are in high demand, and are offered excellent pay and benefits.
